So..what does this do?

I was looking in www.doomportables.tk at the way they portablize the SNES system...

does anyone know why they replace the 7805 regulator with another one
called LF50CV? or (part# 511-LF50CV on http://www.mouser.com)

i donty know why but it may be a switching regulator the 7805 is fine though

It's a LDO 5V regulator. It's a little bit more effecient, and let's you use less than 7.2V to power it.
