capacity doesn't matter, your unit will take what it needs. just worry about voltage.

the only time it's really ever a problem is when your battery isn't up to the job--RC batteries have pleanty of guts so there's no need to worry.

Amp ratings on a battery mean nothing. They are the capacity of the battery. Just make sure you have the right voltage. I'd say go with the Ni-MH 7.2v battery from RadioShack. It'll last you forever, it has 3000mAH, which means that it will power a portable requiring 1000mA for about 3 hours, your portable should take a lot less than that to power though…

Ni-Mh is better. Ni-Cads have a "memory effect", where if they get drained and recharged about the same amount many times they think that whatever you charged them to is their capacity. Very annoying with a laptop. :x

Go with the highest-capacity battery you can find that has the proper voltage. Or pick up a trimmer and a 7805 regulkator at RadioShack and build a 7805 power circuit to suit your needs. (I built one that puts out 8 volts for the PSone.)

When adding batteries together, you can either add the capacity or the voltage together, not both. By wiring the batteries in series (positive to negative) you add the voltage; so your 2 6v 1500mah batteries would become 1 12v 1500mah battery. If you wired them in parallel (tie the positive and negative leads together), you would get a 6v 3000mah battery.

So what you should do is get a 12v 3000mah Ni-Mh battery, and avoid Ni-Cads at all costs. (I'm using an old L-Ion laptoip battery from a dead laptop in my closet. I'll just use the computer as a charger.)

If you're building an N64p, you should know that the 12v line actually has a 7805 5v regulator on it, so it actually requires only 7v (but can take more), therefore you'd be best off with a 7.5v Ni-Mh RC battery. Best part is that if you're using the PSone screen, you don't need a regulator for it.

1. DVD player batteries. they're very high capcity, higher than RC car batteries or AAs
2. RC car batteries
3. whatever else is high capcity and the right voltage
4. rechargable Ni-Mh AAs
