I wasn't sure how to draw a 3 pole switch technically, so I did that.
What do you think?

I think SS just missed the entire point of the cartridge switch.ShockSlayer wrote:I saw your wiring diagram on page 2, for the portable. Didn't like it. Here is what I suggest you change it to:

You need a Video Dup chip in there. The way Brian makes a system know its a Master/Slave (with cart) is the best way imo. I do like the name thoMario wrote:You guys are making this way too complex. There's a much easier way to do this.
Yup, I'm calling it the Klobio Box. Rekarp + LOB + Mario.
The way this works is each portable has a relay and a switch. The switch selects whether the portable is the master or a slave. If it's the master, it's sending 7.5v through pin 8. If it's slave, it takes the 7.5v and activates a relay with it. This relay turns off the N64, which keeps the controller, video, and audio lines open. The relay is easily available at RadioShack. Also, with this way, it automatically switches off the N64 when the cable is plugged in to both portables.
The lower portion shows how the controller part of the junction box works. Very simple.
The problem is the audio. There's not enough pins for true stereo. If we connect the L and R channels together, they will be that way during normal play. We'll probably have to go with mono audio.

Yes but you don't need to swap the video lines and audio line. Killing the N64 will be enough.Mario wrote:How about we do it my way with the cart-sensing switch?Or, it can be up to the user to put a switch or not. Nothing bad will happen if two portables are set to slave or two to master.
And what's the video chip you're talking about?
By the way, this system has to be in every portable, that way any portable can act as slave or master.

Correct. You actually don't need two regulators. One reg and two switches would work.Mario wrote:Somebody's gonna have to clean that up, but yes, I suppose that would be good. We still need a junction box, but I guess that'll be fine.
I was making things too complicated with my auto-switching design. So basically it's just two switches, one for the N64 and one for all power? If there's a cart in it's the master, no cart and it's a slave, correct?

Actually, you mean three or four meeting each other. If 2, you'd only need a crossover cable.Mario wrote:So all this talking was just to realize we need a switch to turn off the N64.
So now all we need is to figure out how to make the Klobio Box. Do we really need the video amp?
By the way, when are we ever going to use this protocol? What are the chances of two of us with N64 portables meeting each other?
