Useless but cool cosmetic mod.... (56k warning)

Post by Tibia »

I mentioned somewhere I do custom jump drives and external HDDs. Here's one I threw together quickly for my brother.

Image
The completed drive. I've got wiring nearly to the edge of the opening, so it was filled in with hot glue for insulating, then cut and sanded smooth. There wasn't time or room to do a plexi window.

Image
His custom label. The clear sealant is still drying, so it looks worse than it is. Too bad this is the only photo op I have.

Image
When I do labels, I do labels right.

It's a 120 gb Samsung SATA drive. There's a USB/IDE/SATA adapter in there. It's stripped down, and hard-wired to the drive itself.

EDIT:
I had to take it apart since the HDD died. I put in a new 160 gb Seagate SATA drive. (5 yr Warranty FTW!) I thought I'd post a pic of the insides for everyone's amusement. It may look like crap from the inside, but it came apart and went back together without me having to redo anything, so I'm happy with it.

EDIT 2: Pics were moved, URLs fixed.

Nice case mod. But like you said that label is the seller, it's very professional looking.

I had to replace the HDD, so everyone have a laugh at the insides! I added to my first post.
