Controller board?

Post by S q u e e ! »

How would I split the controller board for my portable and have it still work? Do I have to have ide wire and attach it? If so, how would I do it? Thanks ahead of time!

Just cut it in the convenient place. Then use another controller for reference. Then connect the traces with IDE cable to whatever length you need. You might need to scrape off the coating before soldering. Does this help?
If all else fails, take it apart!

Sorry about that, use an exacto knife or razor to cut the board neatly. :)

Yeah, that is also called "scoring" (I think...) Once the board is scored you just bend it till it breaks.
Or you could cut it with your dremel tool (also known as: the fun way :D )

Hey, thanks! another quick question. I have seen people who make a switch to change from the built in controller, to a controller port. How do you do that?

Make a switch for the controllers power line. You might be able to (not sure if it'd work or not) use a pull-down resistor on it for an auto-switch :)

It might be better to have a switch between the ground lines, rather than the power lines.

On thing to be careful for...

New PCBs have what called "Muliple layer wiring".

Code: Select all

======|======
------+---+==
======+---+--
======|======
=-Board
--Metal

Got to be careful. You could be cutting contacts you don't know about... :?

I'm not sure if I understand exactly, but remember that the zapper plugs into the the second player controller anyway. That's how you were able to move in games like paintball. So unless your portable had two built in controllers and two built in plugs I don't think it would be of any concern.
