Found these links and haven't seen them posted. Thought the DVD player was very interesting.

I've seen similar products to these before. They played DVDs, VCDs and Famicom games .... but they emulated them. The emulator was very poor and the games ran at about 30% proper speed. On PAL mode, they were even slower. Just goes to show you can't trust pirates to make decent products.

No, it is as they said- an NES emulator. NUON was a special format that played specific games, but I guess it's easier to write an NES emulator than support a fledgling format such as NUON :)

I wouldn't say that the emulator sucked because pirates made it. Rather, most DVD players just are too dedicated to running DVDs to run software, even though I suppose it's possible with some. It's possible they just wanted to have some extra selling point that's kinda neat... and I think in that respect they succeeded (hey, even if it doesn't play them well, who else can say "My DVD player plays NES games!" (except for JackFrost, because his stuff can do anything :) )

The Pockefami does exist, I saw it in Akihabara about 2 weeks ago. And yes, it does look like that. And yes, it costs about $120 so no, I'm not buying one :) I'd rather go with the GTA I think.

Another...

Ok here is another interesting one. I couldn't find any posts with this one either but the search engine does not appear to work well.

First the manufacturer (Japanese)

then some retailers

I am sure that most of you are aware of these, but has anyone used one? With US games? Is it a licensed product (doubt it)? Is it a real NES or NOAC?

Thanks

I've seen them on ebay. I dont think that its a NOAC as its size is rather big for such a thing. As for playing US/European games there is really no way of incompatablity. Just buy an adapter and plug the game in.

I would be really interested to see the guts of this thing. If anyone has torn into one please post some pics.

The only drawback I see is the lack of support for original controllers. I am sure an adapter could be fashioned. My first concern is portabalizing though :)

jack,

How much do they sell it for? Lowest I have found is $30 plus $7 shipping.

If your portablizing than all you need is maybe one controller port from the NES (US and European) for 2nd player. Most of the pins on the Famicom ports are not used so you shouldnt have a problem.
