Live checks the serial number of the hard drive when you sign on, and if it doesn't match up, not only will they not let you logon, they'll suspend your account so you can't even use it with the ORIGINAL hard drive! Besides cost, this is the only thing that has held me back from making an X-Box portable myself. What's the point of even OWNING an X-Box if you can't get online with it.

I saw a website that tells how to get around the hard drive thing, though. I don't remember how, but you basically have to rip the serial number from the original hard drive, and put it on the new one so Live thinks that's the original. But it looked too involved. So, I gave up, since I don't even really like X-Box, and decided to aim for a PS2 portable.
I have a modchip and play online. I dont use Live, i use XBconnect and X-Link Kai! It kills Xbox live, and it's free 8)

You know it funny sometimes to read what people write. Does anyone do there homework before posting? When I start a project I do a lot of reading, that way I know what Im getting my self into. Thats how I come up with the plans of my portables. Here is what Im talking about :
Someone said " the xbox wont run with out the dvd drive"
1. The xbox will run with out the dvd drive with a updated bios, like x2 5035 bios is one that will.
2. You can do a wire bridge that will make the xbox thinks its there.
3. And yes you can go on to live with a chiped xbox, all you have to do is put a switch in to turn the mod chip off...

And as mod chips go, I've done my share. I have 4 xboxes at home all modded and linked together.

These are just some of the things that people say by not doing the homework. The reason I bring this up is that we dont want misinformation on here.

On a different note, here are some new pictures of the case vacuum formed.

pic 1: mold getting ready to be vacuum formed.

pic2: shell after being vacuum formed.

pic4: shell thickness 1.75" .

Next I'll be adding the bottom, the controls and the screen.. So more to come...

YES! I am the first one too see! AWESOME job man. I just can't wait until you paint it. And you're correct, it will run without a dvd drive. Just forget about Xbox live... Hellllllo xbox connect and... whatever that one on XBMC is...

I adore your work!

But how do you keep your portables together? Screws?

EDIT: X-Link Kai! That's it!

sorry dkap, i should have elaborated on why it cant go on live. Because you are taking out the dvd drive you can only run backups of the HDD, which you need the modchip enabled for, therefore you cant get on xbl without being banned.

I know what you ment but a lot of people didnt. I've been chipping xboxes from day 1. The first chip didnt have a pcb, so you had to solder 34 wires stright to the chip. The xbox I have doesn't even have a chip in it, I flashed the bios on the xbox mother board.
All that I was saying is that there is a great resource here and we need to make sure the information that we give is correct. I see the same stuff posted in every forum with people posting 50% of the right infomation and the rest is misinfomation. Dont get me wrong, I love this board ... How do you think I was able to make my DCp, it was because of this board, all the information is here to do it. So everyone keep up the good work and I'll post some more pictures soon....

Say Dkap01, isn't there a problem with spoffing the Xbox into thinking it still has a hard drive... like lack of Xbox Live, or anything else that comes with having a hard drive builtin?

Also to my knowlege if you're able to flash the BIOS chip, you have a v1.0 or v1.1, correct? I've heard that after those two Microsoft stopped using those kind of chips so that BIOS like EvoX couldn't be installed.

Last thing is well the case looks great... What am I looking at? Is that going to be the bottom, top or what?

your correct that he could TSOP flash but that is a pain and lacks some features. I would reccomend X3 w/ the pro switch to switch between 4 BIOS's. that way you could have XBMC, EvoX, Avalaunch, and stock bios, or whatever you want

Sparkfist:
1.)It has a hard drive but no dvd drive.
2.)And yes the the only flashable bios were the 1.0 and 1.1, I have a 1.0 but that not the one Im going to use. The one Im going to use will be a 1.2 to 1.5 and it will have a chip in it.
3.) thats the top of the case with out the screen or controls.

Electric Rain:
Polymer Li-Ion Battery Module: 14.8v 12.3 Ah (180 Wh) and I'll try not to do what Gamelver did :D

I hope to have this project done in about 2 weeks or sooner...
