AFAIK this mod only works on two versions of the FX chip, there are 3 types of the chip:
MARIO CHIP 1 - used only in StarFox, no onboard oscillator (can't be overclocked)
GSU1 - Standard-issue FX chip, in most games. Vortex uses it.
GSU2 - Allows bigger games and somewhat faster. used on Doom, Yoshi's Island and a few others.
I'm pretty sure GSU1 and GSU2 can be overclocked. My StarFox cart has some problems though, it takes a lot of fiddling with the cart slot to get it to boot. It might be an issue because it's quite sensitive to EMI and my SNES is running without shielding.
