All the stuff I want to know to make a Nesp

Post by Dark Savant0 »

Removing the expansion port : You can either desolder it(very quickly and move it around while desoldering), or cut it with a knife. Pocket knifes work well, but be careful you dont do something dumb.

Removing Rf Modulator : Only one option here if you want to continue to have a usable nes. Desolder it using the same technique as above. Then you have to make A/V amplifier. I have not tried direct connection, but the french nesp has. Does anyone know if this works with the psone lcd?

Removing Ground Strips : Remove all those on the outside except the one connected to where the rf modulator is supposed to be. Exacto knifes work good. I have not tried a pocket knife gut it may also work.

Case : Varius cases may be used, but leave some air holes for the lcd screen. Radioshack project boxes are suggested, but I haven't even thought of the case. I will follow the french nesp and make a case out of the original nes case.

Current Questions :
  • How do I power the system once I remove the rf-modulator?
Can I direct connect the audio and video to the speakers and lcd like in the french nesp?
What do I use for speakers If I dont want to have the tv speaker?
Is there any way to make "stereo" sound for this system by sending the audio to two different speakers?

hmmm...that one is on there pretty good, you could try to desolder it I guess, but I'd take my time with some scissors and pliers and just rip it off. :)

So I just take it off with pliers?

Can I also desolder the rf unit?

If you're using a composite signal, why not?

I almost forgot about this... Go to http://www.classicgaming.com/nestable/
They have some stuff that might be useful.

What are the ground strips? Do you mean the shielding?

And I saw a mod on making the nes universal. Does this work and does anyone know what to use to cut the connection?

EDIT : I have seen nestable, and am incorporating some ideas. I hope to finish with this and put up a complete faq so others can follow along and not get stuck on the missing areas of the incomplete faq.

First you take your hammer, smash up the mobo as much as possible, and then gather up the pieces!!!!!!!!!!! that's as compact as you're gonna get ;)............
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Umm, Yeah. I dont think I would want an unworking nes.

Does removing the expansion port render the whole mobo useless? Does it do anything bad? I dont have the teleplay modem to connect it to or any other things, but does it do anything bad when removed?

The expansion port on the NES is form the sound of it the same as the one on the N64, it wont harm the funtion of the system as it was never used and no signals where sent through it.

As for making it smaller, the grounding stripes their talking about are the silver/metal bands that are on the outside of the motherboard. You can remove most of them (but not all you still need a grounding strip for power) The system will than be a little bigger than the carts (according to Gannon).

You can cut off like all but the bottem one (pick which you think is the bottem). As for a case; some people use RadioShack project boxes, make a one out of plex, acrilic, wood. If your up to it make a vacumm form table and make a custom case that has curves.
