Size of SNESp's

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Size of SNESp's

Post by Kurt_ »

I've noticed from a lot of pictures that SNESp's are REALLY REALLY big (although not as big as, say, a GCp or PS2p).

Do people make them big for a reason? Because (I think) the mini Snes board is relatively small...

Or do people just build them from the big boards?

Try building one yourself and you'll understand why the cases are so big.

You need:
Cart Slot
LCD screen
Huge SNES mobo
High-capacity batteries

Personally I think it's impressive that these SNESp's are so small, given what we have to work with.

Well I will definitely post pictures of mine when it's done. (When I can start it! Damn lack of a snes!)

The last ones a game gear, that's pretty big.

I'm hoping mine will be so of like turbo's, I'm going for the landscape design.

When I'm done, I'll probably understand.

Psone screens are big and take up a lot of space. Also, My SNESp (at the top) has a lot of extra space in the back. It could be a lot thinner, but it feels nice in the hand at its current thickness, so there is no reason to change it.

I'm hoping mine won't be over 1.5" thick, the width of a mini SNES, and the height of a PS1 screen minus the transformer part at the top.
Although I haven't even got a min snes yet....

My second SNESp may be bigger than the first gamegear version I made (at the top of the page), but it definitely is more comfortable.

I could've shortened it like Daleighan's, (which looks like mine with no bottom handles), but I chose to add the handles so it would be balanced in the person's hands. I also used a 1992 SNES for technical reasons, which is obviously bigger.

Sometimes making the portable small makes it more uncomfortable to hold.

I was just playing my snesp the other day and thought *wow look at how much smaller this is than a origional snes and a psone scree* size is not always the best thing. My portable fits nice in the hands. But the biggest reason why I like my portable is because it is really nicely balanced. The controller is in the middle, the thickness is just right for the hands. And the R and L buttons a precise. What more can you ask for? There is a minimum sizes you can make your portable and you will find out sooner or later. good luck!!!

Yeah mine was much bigger that it had to be, but i was on a rushed schedule to get it finished, and that size was a approximent(was running low on time, so i figured safe thatr sorry). I could have cut inches off of mine for sure(and I plan to sometime, maybe over christmas break).
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

How small does it actually have to be though? I mean if I built a SNESp (which I wanna finish as soom as I get a new SNES) I would be happy that I even got that far and not how big it is...

You can make any portable just about as small as you want. For SNES though it would likely be at the thinest an inch and the X and Y would be about the same as the SNES board. But to do that you need to custom build a case like Ben does.
