Wow, noob here. What the heck is vaccuum forming?! Help!

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

I've been searching and it seems like vaccuum forming is the way to go. I've read the tutorials, but some of the recomended tutorials are down. I don't even know what vaccuum forming means! Can anyone fill me in?

Those are all working links^

Basically, it means that you have a cast of your portable and using a vaccum (lack of air), you press a piece of plastic against it forim it's shape.

Ooooh a couple more questions.

1) Should I use clay to form the plastic around?
2) If I'm using 2 pieces of plastic to make the case/cast (well, duh...), how should I hold the two together?

Yes, if you think that your clay is strong enough so it won't bend while being casted.
If your clay is thin and will deform, then you'll need to make a plaster cast of it.

I'd get some JB Weld or superglue and attach screwposts to the front, so you can screw it together.
