FDS Repair?

FDS Repair?
Farting around with a friend's Famicom Disk System. When I put the disk in, I get the loading screen, and the head moves towards the center of the disk. Then, it stops. That's all it does. I never get an error message, or any other head movement. Anyone have any experience with these? I've been told it might a new belt, which I can do, but if it is the belt, would the head move at all?
