When you try to use a cartridge, do the built in games just start up or do you get a black screen or something else?
I can't get the cartridges to work with mine either. I think it might have something to do with my nes to famicom adapter, since I get a black screen.
Also connecting pins 30 and 31 together seems redunant, because they are already connected through the adapter. I wonder how Ben made it work.

Mine works so I must know what I am doing atleast more so than you. I really don't know where I got pins 31 and 32 but they are indeed 30 and 31. On the adapter, there is a large gap between the sides of the contacts. I found that marion/duck hunt works well as a test game because the PCB is a little thicker and makes the connection better. If this doesnt work take a straight pin bend it in a hook shape and bend the contacts outward. This made better contact with the cartridges and all your games should now work. Also my was adapter was defective so I had to resolder some of the pins on the cartridge port.

What's really weird is that I also get the black screen when I plug in just the adapter with no game.
You'd think the adapter would be invisible to the system, and that it'd just go the menu of crud games.

unless of course the adapter bridges pins 30 and 31, therefore disabling the internal games.

I guess I will get a Famicom game off ebay, and see if it works.
Then I'll know if the problem is with my adapter.

Okay, I got the Famicom game and it worked on the first try. Then I figured my adapter was bogus, so I went ahead and used a pinout from nesdev to connect the 72 pin connector to the system. But I still just get a black screen when trying to use nes cartridges. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
