Does hot glue conduct electricity at all?

Post by The Zydeco King »

Is it safe to apply hot glue over bare wire and use it as wire shielding?

Im pretty sure it wont... hold on ill see with my trusty multimeter. Ok, the multimeter said no electricity was flowing through the glue. The only other concern is if higher voltages went through the wire, but im sure it'll be fine. :D

I haven't had any problems with it, so I say either no, or it has an extremely high resistance.

It doesnt. Over at xbox scene people often use hot glue all over their LEDs to spread the light. Its actually quite efficient:

If you look closely you can see wiring and resistors strewn about the glue.

all hot glue is is melted plastic. Last I checked, plastic doesn't conduct electricity, so I think we're ok :D
