The format the Xbox uses for its hard drive is FATX which is only a slight midification on FAT. People have been able to install new hard drives in Xboxs before I'm not really suprised they could use a smaller and less power consuming hard drive as you said. By the way does this hdd look to be 3.5 or 2.5 inches wide, if its 3.5 its desktop is its 2.5 its laptop (most likely is a laptop).

yep laptop har drive, considering I know from lots of documentation and the fact I have two adapters to connect a laptop hard drive to a desktop I'm not suprised.

Well if anyone is intersted in finding a way to fit it into a laptop case then we can successfully say the Xbox is portable.
