cartridge slot soldering

Im soldered my cartridge slot on the n64 motherboard after I got rid of the expansion slot but when I turned it on nothing happened its like I NEEDED the expansion slot for the game to work

do I need to resolder the slot to where the expansion slot was???

the exp slot connects the cart slot to the rest of the mobo or something like that

If you soldered the cartridge slot to the holes it came out of, sorry, you're out of luck. Desolder the whole thing and connect the pins to the places the expansion slot was connected. Also, check Ben's N64p story, there is a good picture of the reconnection of the cartridge slot there.

one problem MY CARTRIDGE CONNECTOR IS DESTROYED!!!! I was desoldering it and prying it out of the slot and when I got it out the pins got ripped out. any place where I can get a replacement or do I have to buy a whole new system.? (Im in hot water with this)

Uh, I'm not exactly sure about the exact size of the connector, but you should be able to order one from Digikey.

I think that only works on the SNES, you're better off buying a new connector from digikey or something, maybe someone can point the way to the exact connector?

the best ones you can get are from another Broken n64 where the cart slot is good

since the cart slot and exp slot are connected, would it be possible to use the exp slot for carts?

Already tried it when my N64 was apart, it doesn't work. The expansion slot is made to accept a much thicker plug, cartridges don't even stay in place when you put them in.

when i had to do something with my 64's exp. slot, i just took pliers, ripped out the walls of the slot, used snippers to remove the pins, and then snipped the plastic down to size. it's 1/8th of an inch thick now.

You do know that the cartridge slot is not attached, just pull it out with your fingers and there are some pins to desolder from the expansion slot. That is the least-destructive way to do it. Plus, it no longer requires that you HAVE the expansion slot.
