The Ultra 64's creation has begun!
After reading Ben's book, drooling over pics of N64p's that people made, i've decided to make a portable of my own. I shall call it the Ultra 64, and it shall be mine. here's a concept:
<img src="http://img350.imageshack.us/img350/6284/u641fm.jpg">
here's the topside layout:
<img src="http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/9944/u64top7vb.png">
I plan on curving the topside's corner's to match those on the original controller. im probably gonna use a GC's Z button. that thingy in the middle is the masterDPDT power switch, which will select between off, on (Battery power), and on (DC adapter).
I havent really got measurements for this thing, although i expect it to be at least 3in xs on each side, and at least 2 inches thick. Alone, the system works for single player, battery-only, screen4AV mode, making it smaller due to less components. but, as the song goes, one (player) is the loneliest number. so, rather than build all of this into the system, i can use a D-Sub port to hook into a docking station that i will create. i cant really say how many pins i will use, as i havent thought of many features, other than 4 player jacks, AV-out, charge circuitry, DC-in.
As for the progress of the project. I've done something:
Cracked open N64 and a can of pepsi shortly after;
Removed DC-In jack;
Hacked down jumper pack;
Hooked in 3 Ni-MH AA's for 3.6v and Ni-Cd 9.6v pack.
Up next:
Get a GBA/SP car adapter for a DC-DC converter;
Get more AA Ni-MH's;
find a damn PSOne screen;
Drink another pepsi.
I'll be gone between july 25-august 3rd, so don't expect me to post anything.

I am no one, and I can defeat/stop/scare/kill you.
I am nobody, and I can do it.
I am none, you are second to me.
I am who, and I could/did do that.
I am Jake Turner.

I'm guessing you don't like the way the controller looks...well, all I can say is that you're entitled to your opinion, and then I can change that opinion
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

He is entitled to his oppinion. Just don't expect any help from Gamelver!
I can't believe nobody thought of using that name for a N64P! That's a great one!
Good luck with that concept. If you had seen the PSone screen board you would know that everything would not fit like that.
EDIT: Damn I'm a slow typer! you beat me Gl.

Geez, i was just implying that project boxes arent that sweet. and yeah, im entitled to my opinion. I'm not saying i can build an N64p better than anyone. and i probably sure as hell couldnt make a GCp, much less one better than gamey's. and the lazy b@stards part was a joke, aight? you cant blame a dude for taking a bong hit before posting stuff. and no, MG, i havent seen the inside of a PSOne board, but like i said, i cant give exact dimesions as i dont have all the parts to put in a test case. sorry evre1, aight?
