SNES "hard drive"

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

is there a way to hook up some kind of hardrive or storage device that could play the games off there instead of carts?

If I remember correctly there was this cd player rig for atari that could spit out info to a male cart port and into a female cart port and play roms on the cd, maybe you could rig up one of those

You can burn a CD-R with a bunch of SNES roms, and you put it in this device that plugs into the SNES. However, it doesn't support saving. I can't remember the name of the device, though.

No, I'm talking about an unofficial device. It probably came from Hong Kong. I can't seem to remember where I saw it.
EDIT: Here it is. This one is a self contained unit, but I believe I saw one that was just an add-on for the Snes before.
