playstation 2(old) Amp consumtion
Hey I'm joining the ps2p crusade. I got an intec psone lcd and ps2(old).
I know the console requires 12V dc but before i go out shopping for a/some battery(ies) I was wondering what the amp consumption is per minute or hour or whatever so I know what is a good battery or useless... or? Any insites on good batteries to power it.
Also while im at it anybody also know the amp consumption of the intec psone screen with speakers running so i know what to look for there also.
Once I get them powered on batteries I'll try and make a log+photo website for it.

Wait now im confused so should i give up hopes of portable-izing my ps2 and give a try at another console? I don't really want to buy a pstwo and i dont really want to portable-ize a gamecube because of lack of games unless there is emulation out there for gamecube i dont know about?
Anyhow im guessing ill start with a pack of AA batteries and test 8 of them unless somebody can help me out before this...?

Im still going to attempt to portablize a ps2(old) Ive already created an adapter that uses the old power supply so that it can be plugged into a wall when near one.
And I guess I'll just have to wait and try out the battery life issue for myself.
As for dreamcast it was actually my first choice except playstations game library is ginormous and I like those types of games. Though I like the dreamcast games also there is less of them to choose from which is why im starting with ps2 and then if I'm successful with this I will move on to either gamecube or dreamcast depending on my mood O_o and creative idea flow...~-~-~

actually, the old PS2 doesn't consume THAT much power....AFAIK, it consumes about 2 amps...that's pretty high, but the new PS2 consumes about 1.9 amps, so you'd be getting the same amount of battery life...(if you remove the motors from the disc drive used to slide out the disc tray, you should be able to get it down to 1.9 amps
)
for a battery, I'd go with a portable DVD player battery (preferably one that's 12v @4Ah or more..) like ben did
if you can't find one, then perhaps try 2 7.2v @3Ah RC car batteries from Radioshack and wire them in series

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I dont realy want to come off as an poop egress and that is why I edited my post before but if you do not know riva16 why did you feel the need to make something up if you dont know just dont say anything
btw: just so you know elixirnova when picking a battery you want to check the amp hour rateing of the battery like if it said 2000mAh or 2Ah that would mean it would run a 2 amp devise for about an hour

Hey thanks. I actually remember reading about calculating amp consumption on doomportables.tk. And I have seen those RC batteries they seam reasonable sized although I remember seeing a dvd battery 12V 3Ah that was a reasonable size although I'll keep looking till I find a 4Ah+ because I want 2hrs+ battery life.
As for the drive mechanics/casing I will most definatly be removing it, it is huge!
Around Thursday or Friday I will get my Intec LCD and start comming up with a design for the casing. Thanks for the amp info gamelvr and peppers. Ill post a thread once I get the project rolling.

Alright I go tthe Intec Screen and it runs fine off 7.5V series of AA batteries. And since ps2 runs off 12V I need a 12V battery or a series of batteries if figure would be easiest. And somehow is there a way have the intec screen draw only 7.5V off the 12V power source?
Also I went out and bought a multimeter and whenever I touch the lead's for example to the ps2 ground and power where the power supply and the motherboard connect but it says 00.00 V (dc)- and does nothing but when i change to ~ac mode it says around 11.7-12V why is this?
And I saw that 9V 5.4A dvd battery ben was talking about is there any way I could utilize that?

Hey, don't go getting crap with me... It consumes too much power, and the heat generation is enormous... You won't get anywhere... The smaller PS2, yes... The bigger one... no. The case would be too big... The heat is the biggest problem, but the battery life would suck. you';d ahev to get like 4 of those batteries, and wire them in series... I know more about PS2 than a lot of you do, and from my experience, it wouldn't work too well. Plus, they are very sensitive, and a little bit of shock (like vibrtions and shaking, not voltage or etc.) could prove the end of it... Now DC, that would be cool. I'ver only seen one successful portable DC.
the psu it what geterates the heat and takes up most of the extra space space it is removed when powering from batterys the slim ps2 has an external PSU and more compact disk drive design witch is pretty much the onley reason its smaller and the power consumption is about the same as Gamelver stated earleyer

there is no reason to be a condecending jack*** about things riva, i know some people were working on PS2ps before the small one came out and were making good headway with it.

WTF? The PSU generates little heat compared tot he Emotion engine. That things gets hot in 20 seconds flat! If you do away witht he PSU, you'll still generate twice as much heat becuase all the componets will be crammed into a little portable. I know my sh*t when it comes to the PS2. You won't get very far portablizing the large PS2... What do you NOT understand about this concept? D*mn man! Gimme a break, pricks...
