Once I get a job, I plan on making a portable Nintendo 64 (as opposed to my old PSp Project). And I guess this is going to be the thread for all of my questions and progress.
Here's the list of stuff I plan on needing, excluding things that I need to assemble it like screwdrivers etc.
N64
N64 Controller
Interact Gamcube LCD
Batteries (NiMH)
Case (Tackle Box/Project Box)
Is there anything else I should be needing?
I also have a few questions before jumping into the project:
1. Making it run off of batteries...
To make a 64 and a screen run off of batteries, is it just as simple as running a few wires from point A to point B? Like this diagram shows here. My dad said he understands how to do it from what the diagram says. I just wanted to clarify if it is as simple as running some wires from one place to another.
2. Adjusting the controller...
How would I adjust the controller so the joystick and D-Pad are on the far left of the system, and the A/B/C buttons are on the far right? Pretty much as this picture shows here.
More simply stated, How do I move the joystick, D-Pad, and L/R/Z buttons from their original area to better fit the systems size?
Those are the only major questions I have towards making a N64 portable. Any advice given would be greatly appreciated.

You just extend the wires on the joystick to place it some where else. You can cut them and solder a longer wire on to each end if you want. That diagram is just how it says. If you're using the walkthrough I'm not sure that you power the screen through the way he says. It may be a different guide though.

I started a site for my project. The url is http://www.geocities.com/rkn64p/
It has images of the 64 open as well as the controller. Nothing special as of yet, since I've pretty much only took apart those two things. I still need to get batteries and an LCD Screen.
The 64 was extremely easy to open, I don't see why their called the Nintendo screws of suffering. I just used needle nosed plyers to take all of the screws out but one that was too deep. With the one remaining screw still in, I just pulled it apart with some screwdrivers. The case is actually still usable too, it's just the final screw that is too deep can't really be used anymore.
My friend has a Gamcube LCD by Interact that he is willing to sell for $40, is that a pretty good deal?
