PS2p with hdd?

Post by Hso »

Seeing as you can install hard disks into modded PS2s these days, I was wondering if anyone has tried making that into a Portable?
I'm guessing that you could probably fit a 2.5"(or smaller?) hdd inside it, if you remove the cd tray/laser thingy 'cos you won't need them anymore?
Could the entire machine be made smaller because you won't need room for the CDs?
One more question -- d'ya think that Sony or Nintendo ever read this forum and will decide to make their own consoles into portable beauties?

yes, it would be quite small, actually (smaller than the new ps2, even!!)... well, maybe just as small as it ;)
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

the problem with not having a DVD drive is that you can't play new games unless you make it able to connect to an external drive which would take up more space than keeping the drive

I'm not totally up on PS2 modding, as I truely dislike that system, but doesn't the DVD drive take up only slightly more space than the network card--which I think is still required for IDE drives, correct?

it looked like a pretty slim drive, on the PStwo model.

but it's a decent idea for slimming down the number of games you need to carry, and the bulk associated with making a DVD door. I've seen some nice CF to IDE converters. maybe even one of those old school microdrives. (why are they back in style again?)

it can be done try and get a compatable hdd that uses as little power (amps) as possiple if you deide to go for it and get a modchip that is capable of booting off the memory card

edit:or maybe not ps2 dose not boot up when no disk drive is attached you have to figure out a way to make it
perhaps the modchip you choose could help with that but not sure
