If you have a PSP-1000, there is an app that will run multiple apps at once. It will play MP3's in the background while anything else is running. If you are interested in details, let me know.

The software you're looking for is called "iR Shell." I havent played around with it for a long time. But after some quick research, it looks like they have updated it quite a bit. I think it will run on any PSP now. You should check out:
