First of all, this is just an idea that's purely theoretical, but still might prove worthy of consideration for anyone thinking of making a wii portable.
I have noticed that most people turns towards a laptop design rather than making a handheld. That makes sense since implementing the wiimote into the case would make it hard to aim at the sensors and move the cursor on the menus. I saw that someone proposed to chip the wii and make it auto-boot the games. This seems a little over the top, but sure. To avoid this problem, my idea might be just the right thing.
I couldn't help but notice during my excessive GH-gaming era, that when the guitar-controller is connected to the wiimote, the analog-stick on the guitar controlled the cursor in the menus so that it would be possible to boot the game without aiming at the sensors! The same problem that some portabalizers on these forums are strugling with have been previously been solved by the the ones who made the guitar-controller for the wii! This could very well be the first step towards an easy solution for wii portabalizing. Unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to test it out myself, but I definitely would!
So, any thoughts on this?
And again , I don't really know if this is still a problem, or if it has been solved allready, but still;)

Re: Possible idea for wii portable
I believe the classic controller functions the same way.
Re: Possible idea for wii portable
yes.. the classic works the same way... but you would be limited to games that only support the classic controller.. and when it comes to actual wii disc games that support it, it isnt very many.
now, you could soft mod and put in a harddrive to be able to use all the old classics with the classic controller.. and you could put all the classic controller supported disc games on the drive too.. that would give you a few hundred games total in a handheld.. navigating the main wii menu with the classic would be no problem... you would just have to make sure you dont put a game on the drive that dont support the classic.. cause when you try to leave the game, the stick/pointer/hand thingy wont move or work using the classic.. this would force you to restart the system.
the reason i know this is because i have a wireless sensor bar that i turn off when i dont need it.. so one day when i was done playing a game i was too lazy to stand up and turn the sensor bar on(to navigate the menu to leave the game) i hooked up the classic that was sitting beside me so i could click back to the wii menu.. and when i tried it, it didnt work.. i tried it a few times with games that dont support the classic, and i had the same outcome.
you could take out the disc drive and save some room.. but you would have to cram in a HD, wiimote and classic controller.
i'd do it myself if i knew more about making portables.. cause i think it would still be awesome, even though you couldnt use quite a few games.

Re: Possible idea for wii portable
Or my idea was to softmod with bootmii and go directly into the homebrew channel and from there start a wii/gamecube game. All with the gamecube controller.
I was also going to use the wii as a gamecube portable though...
