Protip: Dont even bother with the original NES. NES-on-a-chip clone systems cost very little, run off a pair of AA batteries, and are tiny. your friend will save money, grief, and effort in the long run.

Anyway i have seen people who made a NES into a big screened system that ran off of a battery just like the DS or PSP would. Like you have to charge it and play for however many hours. Now all I want to know is where to start so I can get it rolling.

Protip: its not your choice whether or not I should do it or not idiot, im doing it whether you think its a bad idea or not. God i cant stand things like you
Wow, just wow.

The majority of people AKA almost everyone, uses a NES on a chip, NOT an original Nes. Thats what dragonhead was saying. He was not scolding you, he was giving some good advice.

With an attitude like that you are not going to get much help from anyone.

you have two posts and you just flat out insulted the second person to ever join these forums, and a respected forum member at that. learn a little respect and lay off the attitude or you will be facing a temp ban

.....it was the way he put it....

What he said : Protip: Dont even bother with the original NES. NES-on-a-chip clone systems cost very little, run off a pair of AA batteries, and are tiny. your friend will save money, grief, and effort in the long run.

an example of what he could have said: I realize that you are trying to try with an original NES but there is a better choice. NOAC is going to be a better and cheaper way of doing things if its going to be a first time project.

i didnt all out mean what i said..its just the fact that i HATE people who say things like "protip:" and something along the lines of COMPLETELY throwing away an idea of yours...its insulting and it makes you feel insignifigant..all i need is help starting out...now i know i can use NOAC instead....I STILL HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO DO!!

EDIT: ^ummm you..sorry i dont know your username....im a REALLY nice guy...you can go on any forum and ask anybody how nice i really am. i am informative and i give help to people. but if it is one thing i cant stand its people like Dragonhead i think his name was. No doubt he is a nice guy and just wanted to help me and i know that i snapped and was really harsh...if you can just please overlook that one detail and see that i can be good :p

Read, find the relevant sections in the forum (screens, batteries etc), and in the Reference section. do some research, read the stickies and all of that stuff, and if you still dont understand THEN ask for help.

That's fine, but this is the Internet. Are you saying you can tell "the way" he said it by how it was typed?
I don't think thats possible. lol

And how did anyone know you knew you could use a Noac. If you don't know how to make a portable or even where to start , I think it is safe to assume he didn't think you knew much about the different options.

Methinks you might have read to much into it.

Now as for your question.

If you look in the Nes sticky you will see many Nes portables that have been built. Start looking through those to get an idea where to start. Also you might want to try to get a copy of Ben's book. Has some good info for beginners.

Good luck.

Yes you will need a soldering iron. A 30 watt from Radio Shack will work just fine.

A Noac is a Nintendo On A Chip. Like the kind you see in the Mall that has a 109 Nes games for $39.99. You can usually use them to play Nes games. And they are much smaller and use less volts to run.

You don't need the book but it helps you to understand how things work and where to start.

As in you want to use original Nes carts ?

You can do that with most Noac's. Just make sure they have a 72 pin cart slot.

Most Super Joys have a cart slot :

You can play the built in games or use your Nes Carts.

The point is that you can make a much smaller portable that will run a lot longer on batteries that you would get with a regular Nes console.
