Super Joy power question

I recently got a Super Joy with the Famicom slot. The guy I bought it from told me not to use batteries and an outlet at the same time. I guess they didn't do anything to keep both the power sources from being used a t the same time. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Replace the dc jack with a switching dc jack. If you don't, and you try to use the outlet while batteries are in, the batteries will explode

Could I get a switching DC jack from Radioshack or would i have to order it? Also how much would it cost?
