Current gen disloading mechanism hacking

Post by praeceps_thaddeus »

I'm trying to make a sort of "jukebox for video games" out of a disk changer and an empty arcade cabinet. I plan on doing it for a single console (an XBox 360). What I'm currently thinking of doing is having a consumer disc changers put the selected game on a a belt drive leading from it to the system. The main downside is that there would have to be a serious rigmarole to get the XBox to open its tray, put the disk in just right, and close the tray (and another rigmarole for getting the disk out of the tray and back onto the belt). Would it be better to just disassemble the console? Is this whole notion even possible? To my understanding, there's a magnet that I'd have to get out of the way that normally keeps the discs in place. Regardless, calling me an amateur would be an insult to amateurs. Anybody have some good suggestions?

since you have all the room in the world, taking apart the xbox and disc drive is your best option, and having an arm like an old vinyl playing jukebox, so the arm picks the disc, and carries it to the spindle, then the magnet is closed onto it arm moves away and either the disc closed circuit is completed or the xbox is reset.

a lot of engineering required but would be cool. especially if you had a window to see the disc and arm moving
