PS3 LapCasePortable - Battery powered

Post by lucidPerspective »

After I'm done with a couple of commission jobs I've got going, I will be building a PS3 Laptop inside a briefcase.

Just for now I'll compile the parts I'll be using, and then later on when I start building I'll get some more interesting posts going on.

Features:
- 18.5" or bigger LED screen
- At least 5 hours battery life
- 500GB Hard Drive
- Sturdy lockable case
- Built in high quality speakers
- Final Fantasy VII, Abe's Oddesy, Abe's exodus - installed on hard drive

Parts:
- Briefcase
- PS3 Slim
- Two of these 19v 20,000mAh batteries <--- this is crap, false advertising. It's only 20,000mAh @ 3.7v
- so I'll use something like this: Batteryspace - Polymer Li-Ion Battery: 18.5v 21Ah
- 18.5" or 20" LED Monitor (depending what fit's)
- Potentially THIS ..allowing me to remove the internal PS3 power supply. But we will see, might be easier to keep it all in there.

The only holes I'll make in the briefcase will be for the exhaust fan, apart from that it'll look like any other briefcase. PS3 will be mounted sideways in the case (disk drive facing the empty half), so on the right side there is room for you to slide in the disk, and store controllers or what have you. Batteries will go in that half too.

The PS3 Slim uses, at the most, 100watts. The screen takes about 30watts. so according to my calculations this should be able to run for over 5 hours off the batteries

If anyone is interested in turning this into a commission, send me a PM. But be warned, it won't be cheap, the cost for parts alone is up around $1000

I'm having a hard time believing those batteries are actually those capacities.

They are coming from china, after all.

Have you tested them? They could be 20Ah@5V, giving you only a quarter of the capacity.

They also could be even less; I've heard of sellers naming the batteries a higher capacity (i.e. it's just the name, not the capacity).

lol.. despite the fancy exterior you are correct. I just cracked this baby open and found a whopping 20,800mAh @ ......3.7v so yea, I'm going to dispute this. This battery steps 3.7v up to 19v ..they advertised it as 20,000mAh @ 19v so yea..LIES

There is a reason why batteries of that magnitude run in the $500 range.

Its a trap.

After the battery incident, I'm thinking the cost of this is going to be too high to make unless it's a commission job.

So I'm considering making this into a PS2/xBox/N64 combo portable instead. If I get commissioned to do what I had planned originally I'll definitely do it, but fronting up around $1500 for parts, especially when I have no confirmed buyer is a little much for me.

I'll probably chuck in a couple of these 10000mah 7.4v Batteries or a couple of these 10000mah 14.8v Batteries

Thoughts?
