Looking for MP3 player suggestions

Pretty much as the title states! I finally sold my old zune and I am looking for something to replace it with! If you have any suggestions please post em up! i'd like it to at least come close to fitting the following requirements

1. Costs less than 100$, preferably less than 60$ Used is perfectly fine, the cheaper the better!
2. not a cheap POS chinese MP4 player unless its actually GOOD
3. not tied to special software. i want to be able to drag and drop OR use it with my mediamonkey
4. either expandable storage or at least 30gb. i will consider something ~16gb if it has a LOT of useful features

and that about covers it, i am open to ANY suggestions but it has to be <100$ like i said above, Anything else goes!

Sandisk Sansa Fuze. I think I paid about $85 for mine.

The most built-in storage it can come with is 8 gigs, but it has a MicroSDHC slot and will take any card within that spec (max 32 gigs I think). You don't need any special software to load music and images onto it, but you should run your video files through a program like Video4Fuze or MediaCoder to get them into the appropriate format. There's also an FM radio and microphone, both of which record to WAV. Sound quality is great, especially when you tweak the equalizer.

The earlier units can run Rockbox really well, but they're still working on making it run properly on newer ones (<2 years old, from what I can tell).

edit: Yup, it does that playlist thing too.

i'll check em out bic. another feature i would LOVE to have again is something like on the fly playlists, the zune used to have it in the older firmware with its quicklist. basically you can scroll through and add songs you select to a playlist and it will play them in the order added. anything with that ability gets moved up the list of consideration lol

Zune HD if you can afford it?


I have a 4gb Fuze I bought for $20+15 shipping on ebay. Great sound quality and battery life.
You can set it to either show up as a media device, or just mass storage.

I really hate my Zune HD. I hate to say it, but it is true.

Another +1 for the Fuze! Uses the same DAC and amp as the Sansa Clip, which is also a fantastic barebones MP3 player, by the way. Also, the Sansa E250 is great, and runs Rockbox like a champ.

And have you considered a used iPod Touch? They can be had for under $100 now.

My vote goes to a Sansa Fuze or the newer Sansa clips with the micro sd slot.

i probably would have gone for the 30$ fuze but they are sold out now and to anybody suggesting any kind of zune NO, NOT UNTIL THE SOFTWARE STOPS BEING AWFUL and the zune had has like 14 apps TOTAL, its pathetic.

How about using zAlternator to change the software? It will allow you to use mediamonkey with a Zune.

zaltenator only works with an old version of the firmware, and there is no way to revert the firmware once you have upgraded. dont think i havent looked into it lol

I have one for sale its a 32 gb touch screen one just like itouch its got a camera nd radio and records video too also has some built in games

Well you can look at what Nextrar has to offer. I have a MA566 model, has a nice little LCD for what track/artist you're listening to, come in a variety of sized (mines 2GB), don't need special software (windows - WMP, Linux - Rhythmbox).

They're pretty cheap so it's not like you're going to feel bad if it goes bad after only a year or so. But I don't their products are as poorly made as that. I just don't use mine often enough to know if it's good or great quality.

I have a sony walkman e345 (-ish).

Its 16 gb. 30h battery. Pretty barebones - it plays videos and photos of course but the screen is tiny. Cost exactly 100 bucks. Good menus, great eq, mini-usb connectivity (no proprietary stuff). No on the fly playlists. Manual claims you can delete songs on the fly but I havent figured that one out yet.

Also it supports drag-and-drop addition of files.
