Commdore 64 and modern LCD
I have an old Commodore 64 at home (my first computer) and I wanted to hook it up to a modern LCD monitor. I have Googled this topic to death, and there are a million different answers... I noticed that the 15" LCD on the Commodore 64 portable that Ben made looks really nice. I was wondering what was used to get the Commodore to connect to that?

i think its just composite, no?
Re: Commdore 64 and modern LCD
Probably S-Video is the best bet. Despite being released before the standard was formalized, it actually outputs Y and C separately (hence using two RCA plugs on the back of the official commodore monitor for video). A quick Google should be able to find the pinouts for both connectors.

If you want to know how Ben did it you could try reading his build log. He might explain it. Its probably composite which means you cant just use a modern monitor without some extra equipment.

The build log for the C64 laptop (unless there is more than one) didn't include much technical details, and did not mention the connection type to the monitor. Also, I'm pretty sure a real C64 only has RF and separate Y and C (compatible with S-Video) output. The C64 DTV did have composite output, though.timmeh87 wrote:If you want to know how Ben did it you could try reading his build log. He might explain it. Well according to the old-computers article, it has RGB. Luma, Chroma, and composite. That's what they said, honestly sounds like S-Video to me.
However if the C64 is only able to do Composite, that's not all bad. If you have the money/time you can get a composite -> RGB converter. It's not the best way of doing it, but it's a way.

Luma and chroma = svideo
luma + chroma = composite.
I find text gets pretty ugly when using composite, and the converter box i'snt going to make it any better...
