Ni-MH AA batteries

Post by F »

I'm thinking of using 6 Ni-MH AA batteries for my playstation portable, or even 12 to maximize the play time. Before I tear off one of my arms for these batteries, does anybody know how much 6 of these weigh? I don't want to be hauling around a 20 lb. PSp.

Ni-Cd

If you didn't know already, those are Ni-Cd batteries, which have a memory. This means that you have to drain the batteries completely before you recharge them.

And I guess 2-3 lbs. wouldn't be that bad.

Charger

Post by F »

I've finally decided to go with the Ni-MH batteries, but I need a suitable charger. The only kinds that I can find on eBay charge 4 batteries at a time, and I'm using 12. Does anybody know of a battery charger that can charge large amounts of AA's, like 12 or 24?

Sorry

Sorry for the triple post, but I've got another question. Does anybody know how many amps the Playstation LCD and system use?

I know the System uses about 2amps per hour.

As for a charger. Check out C. Crane (do a google search) I've received cataloges from then for a while and they have a pretty extencive battery and charger section.

'Amps' is a rate. Playstation and screen, stock, draw about 1.8 amps on average.

Why 12 batteries? Series-parallel for longer life? If you're worried about weight, just use six.

Four at a time seems standard for chargers. I've seen a few larger ones, though not recently. Keep looking.

Batteries

I was thinking about using 12 batteries so I can get more playtime. If the screen and playstation run 1.8 amps per hour then I'll only be able to play it for a little over an hour on 6 batteries.

why not use some sub-c nimh batteries instead? They're a little bigger, but you can get them in sizes of 3Ah and up.
