DS screen as a PC satus monitor?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

DS screen as a PC satus monitor?

Post by FatylPCs »

hey all, im working on a new project and was wondering if its possible to use a DS screen as a status monitor for a PC

If so, how would i go about making a connection to one of the video ports (example: D-Sub, HDMI, S-Video)

i know the DS screen is a Digital signal only and i believe that the newer motherboards put out a digital signal. i could be wrong, but if you never ask questions, you can never gat an answer.

Thanks in advance

The problem is that while both are digital signals, they aren't directly compatible. You can't just connect the right wires to make it work - you'd need some kind of conversion circuitry that goes far beyond the scope of the casual hobbyist.

You would be better off using a screen that is already compatible. You can find small secondary PC monitors for around $100, more if new. Otherwise, there's a how-to on using a PSone/Zenith screen for that purpose.

thanks a lot

i may just end up using an old PSP as a status monitor using some homebrew seeing as its going to tak a lot of work to get the PSO lcd to work right and to fit in the minimal space im using.
