Battery for PS2 Portable + other help

Post by Musturd »

What would I need?

I did a search on this forum for "ps2 battery", "ps2+battery", "ps2&battery".... here is what I found:
Image

Which battery would work well to power a PSOne screen and a PS2. I was thinking about this:
http://www.batteryspace.com/li-ionpacks37-89v.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If this battery would not work, can you point in the direction of one that includes a way to charge it.

If so, how could I connect 8.5V to the PS2 (I have a slim) and (however much voltage is needed for the PSone screen). I have knowledge of resistors, so if less than 3.5V needs to go to the screen, then I can deal with that. I'd just like to know what battery to use, and how to wire the battery to BOTH the screen and the PS2. Also, is there a nice guide that everyone uses? I've been using this: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=31343" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as a guide. But that says nothing about a battery.

So far I have most of the video and audio cables connected from the PS2 A/V out to the PSOne screen.
If someone requests a picture of the current state of the project, I will provide.

Thanks.

You can use 2- 3.7v Li-po's to get 7.4v and then use this step-up converter to get 8.5v for the PS2 slim and use the original 7.4v for the screen.

And here is what batteries chargers etc to use:

Thanks a lot.
Also, I have one more question. Can I hook up all the grounds to the same piece of metal (like video ground/ground)? And can I use the heat sink in the PS2 as my ground (the piece of metal that covers most of the motherboard which I'm assuming is a heatsink)?

Ground goes to the copper looking traces on the edges of the mainboard. No you don't want to ground the heatsink.

Hi,

So according to Basement_Modder,
Image
There's a +5v on slot 1 on the PS1 board.
Should we just have the +5v going out of the AV port on the PS2 directly into the PS1 screen, or do we have just need to connect the battery to the 7.5v in?

Thanks

----ALSO----

We have the stepup converter, and we hooked it onto a PSU outputting 7.4v, and we measured the output with a voltmeter and tried turning the variable resistor screw thing on the converter and it doesn't work, it only goes up to 7.05v.... and with 10 turns, it only goes up 0.01v. But the heatsink on the converter is really hot. What's going on?

EDIT: there's something missing from the original picture on the ebay listing:

^that's what we have now

^that's from the ebay listing

is that what's causing the problem? I'm going to email the seller.

We got the step-up converter that Hailrazer recommended, but all it does is step down the voltage. When we plug in a PSU set to output 7.5V, the reading from the voltmeter on the output of the converter only reads as a constant voltage when below 7.5V. Is there another solution to the voltage problem or are we just doing it wrong?

A reply would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
