Portable-Palooza '09: Contest Information!

Post by Life of Brian »

Discussion thread is here. Any questions or comments must be posted in this thread (or PM me).
Contest sign-up sheet is here

This year's contest officially starts on Monday, June 1 and will conclude August 31.

"The Rules"

The contest rules are fairly simple: Your entry must be a self-contained portable system created from any home video game console and must have at the very least a screen, on-board controls, and be battery operated. All other features and add-ons are optional and may be included at your discretion. Portables that were started (but not finished) before the contest began are allowable entries, so long as it is within reason. For example, if the portable can be finished within one sitting (three to four hours) then it probably shouldn't be entered in this contest.

One caveat to the rules: Modifications of already portable video game systems are allowable ONLY if they include constructing a new case, replacing the screen with one that is not identical to the original, has completely rebuilt controls, and is battery operated since such work is equivalent to what it takes to make any home video game console system portable.

Submissions and Voting
When the deadline is reached entries will close and voting will begin. Forum members will choose ten portables and rank them, with number one being the "best" submitted portable in their opinion. Ten points will be appointed for each "first place" vote, nine points for each "second place" vote, and so on. Whichever portable has the most points at the end of voting wins!

There will be prizes, but exactly what they will be is still being determined. Check the discussion thread for future updates in that regard.

Entries must include one picture of the front, one picture of the back, and two gameplay pictures (and/or one video) which prove that the system is functional. At least one of the pictures must be at an angle which shows the overall thickness of the system. Whoever finishes their portable first PM me and I will start an official submission thread.

Worklogs are not required but are strongly suggested. This forum thrives on sharing what we build so at the very least take some pictures while you are constructing your portable. When and how you share your worklog and/or construction pictures are up to you.

That's it! Have fun, and happy portablizing!
