When replacing the DVD drive in a piece of crap x360 does it have to be the exact same drive in order to keep using xbox live?
If not which do you recomend?

What is wrong with the drive?
If it isn't reading Discs it is most likely the laser.
^^ If it is the laser you are better off buying the same model and switching the PCB board from the drive you have now to the the "new" drive. That way it keeps the same drive key. I believe there are work arounds to spoof the original drive, but the most exact way is to have the original (Different drive keys won't work... usually)
Replacing the board isn't hard there are tuts on the subject.

The drive just stoped spinning the discs i opened it and loobed the drive and it works kinda now ill have to order a new one and they the PCB board trick
