E74 (1 light) and 2L RROD: why so low down and dirty?
I have fixed about 100 XBOX 360 consoles now (not an exaggeration) and I eat 3L RROD and "audio, no video" problems for breakfast, but in spite of most websites listing the same fix for 2L and 1L E74, it almost never works. If it does, it works for like a day and then comes back and will never work again. Has anyone come up with a more specific fix for 2L and E74? I know the E74 is the ANA or HANA chip (I know where it is since its labeled that, its near the back of the system behind the graphics chip), but what causes that to fail? And what about 2L? I know its from overheating, but it often happens way too soon after startup (sometimes in like 5 seconds) to be genuine overheating, is it the temperature sensor failing? If you are wondering what method I'm using, I'm using the nylon/metal washer and pan head screw x-clamp replacement method, and yes I am using thermal paste (arctic silver) and letting it heat up and cool down for 20 minutes each in the "CPU cooled only" configuration.

I've heard that people have desoldered the HANA/ANA chip and it's worked, but I personally don't think that would be all that cost/time effective to do on a lot of systems. Mainly because I don't know how to do it

HOW!? those solder joints are TINY on that damn chip. If they did it, they must have had specialized equipment...
Dammit Microsoft, they couldn't just stick to 3L, they had to start making 360s that get the epic fail 1L and 2L RROD that you can't f-ing fix without replacing the damn board.
