Sega Dreamcast 360 controller??
I have aborted my last project because well. I just got bored of it, and now i have started a new one. I'm going to fuse an xbox 360 controller inside a sega dreamcast controller. Ironically, the buttons on the xbox controller (x,b,a,y) are the same on the dreamcast controller (x,b,a,y) even in the same spots. I will be posting pictures shortly of my project. My mom took the camera....

I really like this idea! I'd love to see it completed. At least you'll have a better D-pad, eh?
Do you think you'll try to include rumble functionality? You could probably just rewire the expansion slot on the Dreamcast controller and use a Dreamcast rumble pack, couldn't you?
Also, do you think you have room for two analog sticks? That's the only thing I can think of that might get in the way of the project.

he could probably just cut a hole on the right side of the controller and put a stick there.Twilight Wolf wrote:I really like this idea! I'd love to see it completed. At least you'll have a better D-pad, eh?

Oh, I know, but what I meant was "Do you have room inside the shell for the whole analog assembly?"

Absolutely, if you have ever seen the inside of a dreamcast controller the inside is huge. there's much much much extra room. and I don't want to add the dreamcast rumble pak. instead ima use the xbox controller rumblers. Unless you think it would be more applicable to just use the rumble pak. anywho. There is also room for an extra analog stick. actually there's about two inches of room for extra anything!!

Re: Sega Dreamcast 360 controller??
It's been a while since I've seen inside my Dreamcast controller, so I wasn't sure if you'd have room or not. Since you do, however, all the better.
As for the rumble, I thought it might be simpler to just wire it up to work with the Dreamcast rumble pack, but if you want to use the Xbox rumble motors, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to get them up and running.
I look forward to seeing what you can do with this project!

I actualy have decided to keep the rumble pack as it would give the extra dreamcast look and feel

P.S. do you guys think keeping the original dreamcast joystics would look better (but work worse) or just use the xbox 360 controller ones?

Re: Sega Dreamcast 360 controller??
the DC controller uses special joysticks that cannot be replaced with xbox joysticks. Although, you may be able to swap the caps.
And for the vmu window, perhaps you have a small monochrome screen off of something. you could remove the screen and superglue it behind the window. You could use a vmu screen, but that would make the vmu minigames impossible to play.

Re: Sega Dreamcast 360 controller??
hm.... this is going to sound dumb. but you can move the joystics on the xbox controller around as long as you wire it up and make sure it all works once you have desoldered it and what not. correct?
Re: Sega Dreamcast 360 controller??
You can relocate the 360 Sticks to wherever, ya just have to keep the X/Y axis in line and then wire it back up accordingly, like how I did on the 360PS controller, so the short answer to yer question is yes.
You're in for a F-ton of work on every aspect of that thing, the 360 sticks sit up too high mounted to the DC board, the Triggers you'll have to really get into and could be done a number of ways, then there's just enough room in there for the CL version Wired 360 controller board if ya hack it down as much as I did to make the 3PS60 controller, and you'll have to contend with the different CL and CG setups as to not short anything important out.

Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.

You could add the Ring of Light and the Home-Button in the VMU-Window.
And nice Idea.
