newbie port-ing psOne, recharging questions

Post by DreamsontheGo! »

hi! just got off my own PSp project thanks to this forum and my first post here.

i got my psOne gutted and currently have it running off of a camcorder battery and i have a switch to divert power between the adaptor and batt.

:?: i was wondering if there was any way to recharge my battery(ies) through the dc connection :?:

the camcorder batt. is great but if there was a way to recharge using the same dc plug, i'll opt for that, any type of batt. if this query ends in a fruitless serach, at least some interesting ideas will show up.

thanks everyone

btw, i'm a complete newb at this but i dont believe in stupid questions

You'll have to get a converter installed to send power into the battery. I not completely sure of how you would do it but this added feature will (sadly) make the portable bigger and heavier, not to mention require either heat sink or fan for the converter as they generate a lot of heat.

Perhaps someone else will be aboe to fill you in on the details much better.

yeah, you'd need to use a battery charger that has something like a 12V dc input. Then it's just a matter of locating it so the unit doesn't become top heavy

You could build a charger into the system for the battery just make sure there's some kind voltage converter in it. I've seen for the N64 for so you could definitley do it.

You should be able to connect the charger to the battery while it's running your system. I don't know that much about lithium batteries, so it might not sense the battery correctly. At work we've done the same thing with lead-acid batteries - charging while they're in use is no problem. Just make sure you can handle the range of voltages. Topped-off batteries can be 10-25% higher than the rated voltage.

Also make sure your charger is powerful enough to run the system with power to spare. That is, this will only work if (system playtime on full battery) > (time to recharge that battery).
