PS One Screen Problem. LEDs not lighting up!

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PS One Screen Problem. LEDs not lighting up!

Post by Insert_Name_Here »

I wired all the LEDS up to my resistor that is getting 5 volts. Though something wierd is going on. They weren't lighting, then I layed the unit down and suddenley they all lit up and all was well. I did a little cheer and soon after, everything went crazy. My resistor melted off all it's hot glue and wires got undone. I tried reconnecting it over an over but to no avail. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Short in the wire or cold solder joint somewhere. As for the melting of stuff, I can only assume that the resistor isn't a high enough wattage.

You said your hot glue melted off. Did you use any solder? (I don't want it to sound like I'm calling you stupid or anything, but you wouldn't believe some of the mistakes that people)

I soldered and then hot glued. And I am using the resistor recommended in Ben's book.

There's always the possibility that you just got a bad resistor, or it was labelled wrong.

Sounds like a short circuit. Try some new LED's.

Just thought, are you sure that you had all the LEDs the right way, and did you use the right resistor value?

Yeah, maybe you switched the + and - leads on the LEDS?
