Power Supplies

Post by Bibin »

Guys, my Dig-Dug operates on 12V and 5VDC. I should be able to replace the old aging power supply with a hacked up PC ATX supply, right?

What I'm not sure about is the monitor. Does it run on standard 120VAC or something else pumped out by the PSU? I'm going to get a new monitor soon anyway, but if the old power supply is required for the monitor I can temporarily have two in there or something.

I think most arcade monitors take 120VAC, but you should open it up and check.

I did; it's not labeled anywhere.

Well that's what your finger is for. If you receive a substantial shock, it's 12VDC or 5VDC. If it shoots sparks and sends you flying halfway across the room, it's 120 volts.

Seriously though, try a multimeter. Or post pictures and let the forum geniuses figure it out.

So, if I have some standard rat-shack voltometer, do I set the setting to 1000VAC, and just touch the probes? 100VAC is also available but a bit lower than the target value.
