so you wanna...

Post by monster »

post here how to's on common problems, mods, or basic stuff just about everyone needs. start each post with "so you wanna" and take it from there, post wanted guides also, as long as they aren't already mentioned (please actually read the thread, someone did this on another forum i frequented, it went great until people started getting lazy)

i'll get the ball rolling,

so you wanna keep track of all your screws? take a sheet of paper, write where the screw came from on the left side (i.e. "outer case" or "outer controller, inside memory slot") and then tape the screws down next to the location, if things start getting messy and crooked, draw a line fromthe writing to the right side, then tape the srews on that line.

so you wanna keep track of the aluminum plates on top of the N64 motherboard? number the plates as you take them off, number 1 being the first one you take off, this also makes it easier to keep track of the screws, because you can say "plate 3" instead of drawing a picture or something.

i'd like one on how to relocate the cartridge slot using 40 pin IDE cables (i took off the cart socket, since it just plugs down into the Exp. slot. i want to connect the cart slot directly to the motherboard, becayuse i don't want the weight or the volume of the exp slot in my portable)
Mitzuko: Was that a gun?
Jun: Probably. This is America.

When you take off both the cart, and ext. slots, solder the wires from the cart slot to the top and bottom rows.

Do you solder the original cart slot only? What happens to that other one?

Trash it, keep it, whatever. If you leave it on the board, just stick the wires where the slot came from. You may as well take the extension slot off, because it is useless.
