In Need of GOAC and Hip Gear Info

Post by bicostp »

I'm finally concidering boulding a GOAC portable, now that I have browsed the 'boards a while. (I thought I should get some insight before screwing up brand new electronics)

I just need to know a few things:

-How much power does the Hip Gear screen draw?

-How much does it typically sell for?

-If anyone else has built a GOAC portable, how tough was it?

and
-Is this a good first portable?

I figure I could build the GOAC into the Hip Gear controller, or am I misstaken?

Thanks for the help.

You may be able to build the GOAC into the Hip Gear Controller, I'm trying to put all of a Radica and Hip Gear, in a Radica.

about 150mA to 250mA an hour. This is without LED mod.

$30, check out KB Toys, or ebay.

I dont think its that hard. The toughest thing Ben said is making sure the leads dont come off when your desoldering the rom chip from the Radica. Otherwise its solder the cart slot on, battery power and a screen.
-Is this a good first portable?
I'm sure its one of the easier ones to do.

Thanks. :)

Oh, can the Hip Gear screen run at less than 12v?

Yes, it can run off 6v. You have to rip off a voltage regulator and jumper it directly.
Who else would I be?

I'm thinkin' I could cram everything inside the nice big xBox controller version. Maybe run it off a 9 volt w/ a power regulator and a couple resistors.
