PSone screen and Sega Saturn: Powering the Screen?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PSone screen and Sega Saturn: Powering the Screen?

Post by LeonHikari »

I've got a little project going on about modding a PSone screen onto a saturn. I was wondering, how exactly would I power this thing? I mean, the saturn runs on AC power running at 120v, and the PSone screen runs at 7v DC. Will I need some kind of converter, and where would I solder the 7v line to the saturn at? Any help would be appreciated.

You could try finding a 7V power regulator. It would probably be set up like this:

Code: Select all

 ______ I=Input
| I G O | G=Ground
 ¯|¯|¯|¯ O=Output
I would go from your system's 12V input. G would go to your system's ground. O would go to your screen's power input.

Alternatively, you could use a HipGear screen, which has a 12V input.

actually, the saturn doesn't have any voltage regulators. The PSOne screen has 2 7805s but it requires the 7v+ input to power the cathode light tube. THe Satrun actually runs of 5v @ 3 amps (model 1) and the later models run off 9v, 3.3v, and 5v! Stick to the model 1 if you're trying to mod the thing. What I used to power them both was a 7.4v battery with a 5v 3A voltage regulator for the saturn.

Can't exactly use a model one. All we have a model 2s, and we're modchipping them.
