If it is SATA, or you get an adapter to make it SATA, then yeah. The 360 doesn't care whether the harddisk is mounted to the top or not.

No. It has to be a SATA drive, or an IDE drive with a SATA converter. There is no such thing as a USB hdd to SATA converter, and I think the 360 is a special SATA, anyway.

not really, but it has to be a special type of HDD, I believe it's WD BEv scorpios, becasue those are the only HD's the HDDmaker tool will read. MS HD's have a security code or whatever to tell if they are MS's or not. Basically you can either use a public HD code, or use your own or a friend's. Just know the only Hd sizes you can have are 20, 60 and 120GB drives as those are the only ones MS released.

There are a bunch of Usb to Sata converters on Ebay.

Yes there is.

Also, most external USB hard drives you can buy now are SATA. (I bought an 80 gig Western Digital one from Wal-Mart for $30 because it was in a broken package, intending on installing it in an old-ish small laptop. Unfortunately it was SATA and I needed IDE, so back it went.)

Wrong adapter for this application, that lets you plug in SATA drives to USB and does not work in reverse.

Hmm... I must've been thinking of another console, if the 360 does indeed require a specific brand of harddisk and capacity.

does anybody even listen here.....doesn't matter what adapter you get!

read this page.

No sata conectors are needed if you already have a HD. You need a specfici type of HarDrive and you need to converty it. Who cares about adapters if you don't get the same HD needed anyways!

No, there is not. There are SATA to USB HDD adapters, but certainly not USB HDD to SATA. Not sure if it is even possible, but if it was, not much practical use for it.

@ghost0001: No, that only works for media, you cannot rip games to it, or use it for save files, and I do not think it can be used for marketplace content.

I remember seeing that "Mod" a while back, and I laughed at it. You can really simplify it two these steps:

1. Buy external USB hard drive

2. Plug it in.

3. Turn the 360 on

4. ?????

5. PROFIT
:P

I want to install an additional hard disk using the IDE slot, will it not be problem to the SATA hard disk? Can an addtional hard disk in the IDE pose a problem if installed together with a SATA hard disk
