PS in my car!

Post by GtaMasta »

Hi all. I've posted a bit on the old site but now i have a new question.
I want to put my ps in my car but I have a few questions. I'm going to use 2 of those controlers with the tv's on em because i dont have the commitiment of cutting a hole in my dash/back of headrests in order to putin the tv. They claim the controllers will work on the PS1 so I'm getting a few next thursday.

Next I'm looking at the radioshack website which in car power inverter will i need to buy? I only need 1 outlet for the ps itself but i am unsure wheather i will need the 60 Watt or 120 Watt. I know 120 will work for sure but i wanna know if i can save 20 bucks and go for the 60 watt?

Thanks any help will be loved and admired.

Or, if you're a wussy bastard, just spend $150, get the mini PSOne and screen, spend another ten or twenty or so and get it's official car adaptor, and you're done.

NOTE: This guest is not insulting the person doing this in any way, he is merely offering a cheap and more official solution. Please don't pelt him with things.

yea but i dont have a ps1 just the original playstation and they there would be ripping it apart. I want to "kiss" (keep it simple stupid) it and just hide the thing in the glove compartment. That way who ever is playing can see their own individaul tv instead of trying to share a tv between the front and back passenger.

FYI the hip screen requires power from an outlet. I own one and you'll need to buy a spliter as well, sadly the screed do not run off the controller ports 5volt.

Why do you need an inverter? Just get a car power adaptor for the PSOne. Check Best Buy and other stores, otherwise they're all over Ebay.

What voltage do the controllers use? I'm sure someone with a soldering iron could make you a power supply for those for no more than about $20. It would save you a lot of room up by the power plug in your car.

Stereth he already said he has a Playstation not a PSOne. Meaning if you want to use the PSOne car adapter you have to take out the internal power supply and connect the adapter directly to the mobo.

The power adapter for the hip screens is rated at 12v 500mA. If you buy two of those you could mod one of the power adapters so it powers both.

RadioShack sales a car adpter that goes up to 3000mA if you can made it so it offers both 12v and 7.2v you can run both all on one plug. But that would be pushing it pretty far.

Good luck making you playstation work in your car.

Yeah this is Gta Masta here this is my other alias.

I had just read about that today that if i have two of those controllers i will need to plug them in as well.

Now im wondering how much each one runs off because i'm wondering if i could use a double plug from radioshaq and then split the one for the two controllers.

Or if i could run the ps and two controllers off instead of the 60 watt mabye the 140 watt??

If that works ill pick it. I'm also considering getting double outlet so in the future if i decide to put my ps2 in there i will be able to run it without having to buy yet another power converter.

I plan on buying one controller to try it out and c how it is then once i put it in my car sometime next week ill take a few screenshots and post em up.

Edit: I just found this on the Canadian tire website its cheeper then the 1 outlet radio shack one and its got two outlets. Not only that the thing you plug in the lighter has a cable to the actual device so i can hide it under the seat along with my ps.

You can get the hipgear screen to run off of 7.5v, you just have to take out the backlight and voltage increaser for it. After doing that, you will need a light source, such as white leds. I've been able to make both the screen and ps1 run together off of 6xAA batteries, but not just 5 (which would be 7.5). You'll also have to wire the LED's correctly so you don't blow them out.

And be careful not to do too much of this at 2:30am when you're tired...you'll mess stuff up.

no i plan on using the car battery to run it. I'm still deciding if i should buy a secondary car battery or not.
I got the two controllers and there sweet I loef them. Picture is amasing and great loud sterieo sound. only downside it screen wobbley when locked and lock doesn't lock after about a 45 min.

The power inverter was sold out and was discontinued so i cant get a raincheck (probably why it was on sale) the Sob manager wouldn't sell me the new digital one on sale because its 10$ more so it could't do it.

Thats ok though because aparently the same company that makes the controller makes an adapter that u plug into the lighter that powers the system and the controller so thats cool im checking that out.

If u guys are bored look up this peice
Hip Power Inverter (LM 524) it powers the ps2 console and ps2 controller with the screen. I'm going to lok to thanks for everyone whos assisting. I'll take the screen shots when i get it in the car working.

you shouldn't need another battery since this stuff doesn't take too much. MAYBE if you have a tiny battery, but it can't be too bad, especially if your stereo is small (and if it isn't, it should still be ok)

Ok so far nothing Canadian Tire no longer has the old on sale 400 watt power inverter.
I went to walmart there more useless than everything else.
Radioshack only had the 125 and 700 watt but the 700 was way to expensive and could probably run my dishwasher and fridge.

I went to another EB at a different mall and they had a 175 watt power inver for the same price as the 400 (thats discontinued.) but on the package it said it was ment for powering the ps2 system and that little 5 inch dinky tv that sits on the system. I asked the inbred idiot behid the counter if it could power the system and 2 controlers and hes like hmmm i know it will one for sure but im not sure about two. I ask him if i can return it if it doesn't work and hes like no not once it's open. I didnt' bother to take the risk cause i was unsure if it would work.

So would 175 be able to power a ps1/2 and two of those controllers?? i think it would I'm going to look a bit today as well hopefully i come across a 400 watt one for cheap (under 50)

Well lets see the PS2 takes ~2 amps to run and each hip screen requires 500mA so thats about 3 amps.

3(amps) * 12(volts) = 36 watts

You should'nt have any trouble powering those lil screens, the only problem I se you having it only 2 outlets on the inverter when you'll probably need 3.
