Portable DVD-Player LCD Screens Vs. Intec 7.2" XBOX scr

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Portable DVD-Player LCD Screens Vs. Intec 7.2" XBOX scr

Post by Xtinctpaul »

I was just curious to see if anyone has used an lcd from a portable dvd-player as a screen for a portable system. The one I'm thinking of buying is 7", but doesn't have external input jacks for connecting other sources.

Would it be possible to wire in rgb/composite signals for this, or would it be similar to those trying to use laptop screens without lcd boards? If done correctly, it could also still retain it's dvd-player use.
(Insignia DVD-Player I-PD720 7" @ $207CDN).

Otherwise, I would just get an Intec 7.2" XBOX screen for around $160CDN. Only problem is I've heard mixed reviews about it's bad/good quality. Anyone have experience with those?

Thanks.

I used a portable dvd player for the NES Mobile. It isnt handheld, and the dvd player can be removed though. It uses 2 inputs that were built into the dvd player. Its a good screen, we use it everyday almost.

Did the DVD player that you used have external inputs (rca jacks on the back of the unit for example), or were you able to find a connection inside that the dvd player was using?

Why are you people asking such questions if he's already answered them?

I've thought about using a portable DVD player screen before as their thin and already wired to fold down, but I dunno if the screen itself accepts standard video, or if it's digital like any portable game systems screen. Would be nice to know for making much smaller portables then you could with the PSOne screen.

I decided to go with the Mad Catz 7.0" universal screen (around $220cdn) as it was best looking and had the best video quality. I would still be interested in hearing if other people have used dvd-players for screens.
