Yes the expansion slot is like the one the Famicom had. The thing is that the NES never had something like the Disk Drive developed for it as a result of easy piracy and Nintedo wanting to differ from compters and past game systems. If you can find the pinout for both the NES expansion and the Famicom's you could rewire it to work. Its just that, many of the games that were orignally on floppies are not (or have been) convertered over to carts so there isnt much if any gain from doing this.

This doesn't respond to what you want, but over at http://www.nesplayer.com is a great tutorial for using a FDS on a NES.

Recently I posted the pinouts for the NES and Famicom expansion slots at atariage, I'll dig them up and post them here. Should be able to make an adapter :)

I like the idea of building a expansionport (guess i can aford that)
one technical question the player ports on the famicom have 9 pins the nes only 7 wherefore are the pin 8&9 and can I get them in my nes?

(ps: do amaricans celebrate the first of May I don't know why but in germany we do actually it must be an invention of the alcohol industry cause you drink a lot and protect a may-tree)

Actually, the famicom has 15 pin ports, not 9 pin ones. I'm not sure of the pinout though.

the expansion port has 15 pins but the one for the controllers has 9 on doomportables is a describtion how to get a second port out of a megajoy II the port also has 9 pins like my famicom clone the mini famicom
that must be the game port for the controllers there must be a use for the 2 pins

Ok, I was just going off of what gamesx.com said (and their nes/snes controller pinouts are screwed up anyways)
The other 2 pins (from what I can tell assuming that the famiclone I have has the same pinout as a regular famicom controller) are not connected at all.
