Best place to buy Komatex?

Post by woox »

I am looking to buy Komatex, and some of them need to be 0.75" thick (as ben used in his 360 laptop).

I dont care about color but I perfer black, anyone know good and affordable places I can buy these sheets?

You can find it under the name Sintra as well. Sign shops are a source, but they may not have the size you want or may be expensive.

A more generic name is "Closed-cell PVC" or "Foam PVC". You can find this at http://tapplastics.com and http://usplastics.com.

I've never seen it in Home Depot. I don't think Lowes has it, but haven't been to one in a while.

Sign shops actually use the stuff, so they have it. And ordering online isn't a bad option. You can typically get it cut to the size you need by them to save on shipping if that's your issue.

How much do the PVCs go for generally? Say I wanted to get a few sheets to do the base of a xbox 360 laptop which according to ben is 1-2 inch thick? From online they are like $140+ which is ridiculous..

It depends upon the size of the sheet.

Really, your best bet is to look up "plastics" in the yellow pages. Find a company which will sell you the stuff in a full sheet (48" x 96") to minimize the cost/square foot. They're local, which means no shipping charges. You're working face-to-face, which means you can ask the person behind the counter a zillion questions. It's the way to go, I think.
