Really, you can't unless you leave a margin around the texts. Your best bet would be to get some custom decals to replace the logo and button labels after your sexy paint job. Or you could go the easier route and make some stickers with a red background to use. Obviously you would be able to tell they were stickers, but it might not look half bad.

You could probably make your own decals on your home printer.

Or you could make your own rub on decals then put a clear over them. Here are some instructions on how to make a rub on decal. I read in one place that you should put the clear on very lightly or it might run. I would practice on a spare piece before doing it on your project.

Didn't he say in one of his threads that he bought stick-on letters from a sign shop?

I have much more experience with models than hacking game systems so I actually have a small amount of expertise here and you are right, you must make sure that the clear coat is compatable with the decal or it will esentially eat it. generally if you use a clear coat from a model company such as Testros you'll be ok, if you use a clear from a real automotive paint or the like generally it tends to be to harsh
