Game Genie Key Chip question

Post by MM007 »

As many of you know, the NES has a lockout chip which requires a key-chip to activate the NES.

I am wondering if the Game Genie has it's own such chip, or if it just acts as a passthrough in that respect, relying on the normal game's keychip.
Warranty-Voiding fun!

It acts as a pass-through. It was not licenced by Nintendo.

On a semi-related topic, I believe all of the unlicensed NES carts have their own implementation of the chip. Most of them weren't perfect, and various versions of the NES don't play nicely with them. Codemasters came up with two different codes to run, selectable by a switch.

Yep. Some companies's chips actually tried to electrocute the lockout chip, or make it try to crash to get around. http://www.tripoint.org/kevtris/mappers ... index.html
