Tact Switches- Yes or No

Post by goodie »

I'm getting ready to make the controls for my portable. Most people seem to like tact switches for the buttons, but are they really any better than the carbon pad thingies that the original controller uses? I don't want to bother getting them if there is no noticable difference.

Well do you like how the controller feels now, or do you like it to "click". Not having a nes controller I couldnt tell you what I like better, but Id go for whatever you like best.

It feels alright. I've never had any kind of "clicky" controller, so I can't really compare.

Well tact switchs are whats in a mouse, so Im sure youve had some exposure to them. If it feels alright I wouldnt worry about it.

I like the "mushy" feel of an nes controler, as Ben put it.

Okay. I think I will go ahead and keep it like it is then.

They are a lot different from an NES controller, when you push them down they have a sharp "click" action. What they really are is a metal "dome" and when you push it down, the dome flattens, making a "click" feeling'.
They take some getting used to before you really like them.

Do you have a VCR or DVD player? The play, rewind, fast forward, etc. buttons use tac switches most of the time. They may be a bit more hard to push down than the ones ben uses.
